This is a project I work on between everyday life. It’s supposed to be directory listing of  published Papua New Guinean Writers and a list of their published works.

This is a work in progress so you will  find a few writers listed but there are details missing. I am working on it. If you can help just leave a message with the details and I’ll update the information or leave your contact details and I can contact you.

  1. Hi Maiyata,

I am writing on behalf of Commonwealth Writers, the cultural initiative of The Commonwealth Foundation. I am hoping that you might be able to help direct me in something I’m trying to do.

Commonwealth Writers seeks to platform and develop new writing around the Commonwealth, and is committed to the idea that a well-told story has the power to bring about social change. We are running a week-long residential writing workshop in Fiji next February, open to writers from Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu or Vanuatu (the Commonwealth member states. There is more detail about this here: http://www.commonwealthwriters.org/opportunity-pacific-story-workshop/).

The workshop will be free to attend and support will be offered to writers travelling to Suva. The workshop will be designed in response to the writing submitted by applicants. So the idea is really that we adapt the workshop to the stories people are wanting to tell rather than come in with a set idea for a creative writing workshop. We have publicised the workshop throughout our own networks in the Pacific but we’re really keen to reach people we don’t know already –particularly those who do not have easy access to the internet, universities etc.

If you had any contacts you could put us in touch with, or ideas about spreading the word as widely as possible in Papua New Guinea or any of the other countries listed above it would be enormously helpful.

    Very best wishes,

    Kitty Drake
